Louisiana may have rich culture but they also have poor natural disaster conditions. Due to rapid climate change, this state is receiving the brunt of the impacts.

Louisiana is subjected to rapid sea level rise, increased temperatures, frequent droughts and heavy floods.

The current climate extremes Louisiana is facing include record-breaking heat, observed increase in sea level and rise in average annual precipitation.

Louisiana is expected to incur more heat waves, intensified hurricanes from temperature and precipitation increase, extreme droughts and floods and continuing sea level rise.

The Southern Climate Impacts Planning Program is aiming to increase Louisiana residences’ level of resiliency and preparation in the face of probable extreme weather conditions by elevating houses, carbon capturing, and updating drainage systems.
