Climate Change is now yet there still exist a great percentage of people who decide to worry about it later, if at all. The science is there, the Earth is warming and is experiencing temperature abnormalities not commonly recorded in the 21st century.

Environmentalists are advocating for the expansion of renewable energy resources to slow down these effects, but some economists are under the false belief that these alternative sources are not financially beneficial as opposed to coal and petroleum. On the contrary, sustainable energy is now the upcoming competition for the exhausting resources.

Instead of reading the myth buster, watch it!

Nonrenewable energy comes from reservoirs that cannot be replenished as fast as it is extracted, an example is fossil fuel. Carbon dioxide is put into the atmosphere mostly by human activities, referred to as a Carbon Footprint, specifically deriving from the use of nonrenewable energy.  The most impacting factor to climate change is the release of carbon dioxide emissions, a greenhouse gas, which absorbs heat from the Sun’s rays therefore increasing Earth’s temperature.

An energy resource that can replenished at the same rate it is exploited is categorized as renewable. There are many types of renewable natural resources like water, solar rays, and biomass; These reservoirs are then turned into energy by devices tailored to each natural component. What is awesome about renewable energy is that it is re-new-able, as in we will not run out. Clean energy also does not leave nearly as big of a carbon footprint as its counterpart.

Despite the environmental benefits of clean energy and the detrimental effects of nonrenewable energy, corporations tend to gear towards the usage of coal and natural gases under the belief that they cost less money. What is not accounted for here is the renewable energy, including geothermal and hydropower, that is already competing with the dollar amount and energy production of fossil fuels. Wind and solar power are the leading forms of clean energy while predicted to be more economically efficient by 2020.

In the near future corporations may turn to renewable energy, not for its sustainability, but for its relatively low monetary price. The International Renewable Energy Agency released a report that indicates “offshore wind and concentrating solar power should cost in a range of $0.06-$0.10 per KwH by 2020-22.” To draw the comparison, fossil fuels currently cost an average of $0.05 to $0.17 per KwH. As the price of renewable energy drops, the technologies to produce this clean resource will also become more easily available for consumption.

Renewable energy is going to be the better option environmentally and economically, posing as a challenge for entities that rely on fossil fuels imported from other oil rich countries and or domestic coal. Aside from the actual cost of the energy, these influential systems believe that green technology will eliminate jobs when in reality “more than $1 trillion has been invested in renewable energy around the world and the industry now provides nearly 10 million jobs.” The wave of renewable energy is among us, relieving our wallets and saving our planet.
